Mission

The mission of the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library is to advance and transform education, research, and health care through dynamic technologies, evidence application, and collaborative partnerships. The library contributes to the success of health professionals, students, researchers and the community.


The library is recognized locally and nationally as a leader of intellectual exploration and as a catalyst for innovative discovery.


Vision

To provide a user-friendly, fully-accessible, award-winning web presence that organizes and presents Library resources and services, current and new technologies, and opportunities for user feedback in a concise and effective manner.

Funding for the Library's website is provided by the University. The Library website does not host or receive funding from advertising, nor does it participate in any banner/link exchanges. Content is provided by Library faculty and staff with editorial guidance from the Web Content Team and the Library Webmaster. Social Media Policy

Summary: The Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library (EHSL) sponsors staff blogs, wikis, photo sharing, video sharing, tagged websites and other social media sites to further its mission to meet the cultural, educational and informational needs of library users and community residents. The Library's sponsored sites are also a place for the public to share opinions about library related subjects and issues. Comments are welcome and will be reviewed prior to publishing. The Library reserves the right not to publish any posting, or to later remove it without notice or explanation.

Privacy and Confidentiality

It is the policy of the Eccles Health Sciences Library to safeguard the confidentiality of transactions between the Library and its borrowers, in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, University of Utah Privacy Policy, and the American Library Association's "Policy concerning Confidentiality of Personally Identifiable Information about Library Users."

The choices of books and other library materials, and the use of the Library's information resources, are matters of private concern and therefore the Library will make every reasonable effort to ensure that information about borrowers and their choices remains confidential. In this way, the public can make full and effective use of library resources with the sure knowledge that no others will know the books they read, the materials they use, and the questions they ask.

Web Site Statistics

We use server log analysis tools to create monthly summary statistics of our Web site's usage. These statistics are used to reflect usage summaries such as: general access (number of hits received), resources accessed (our most and least popular pages), visitors and demographics (IP addresses and domains), activity statistics (most/least active days), technical statistics (client errors), referrers and keywords (search engines and sites that point to our site), and browsers and platforms. These logs and statistics are used for analyses, which may be included in reports, grant proposals, and in other published and unpublished sources.
